Nizami Najaf ogly Jafarov
Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Academician of the International Engineering Academy (IEA) and the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NEA RK), Honorary subsoil explorer of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honorary Citizen of the Zhitikara district of the Kostanay region, General Director of “Asbestovoye GRP” LLP, editor-in-chief of Mining geological journal.
Nizami Jafarov was born on June 2, 1957 in the village of Tazakend, Ismayilli region of the Azerbaijan SSR, in a family of collective farmers, he was the seventh or eighth child, because he has a twin brother, Fizuli.
In 1964 he went to the first grade of the school. However, due to economic difficulties, the parents were forced to send the twins Nizami and Fizuli to study in a neighboring district, to a boarding school, where they studied for the fourth grade. After graduating from high school in his village with honors, in 1974 Nizami entered the first year of the Faculty of Geology and Geography of the Azerbaijan State University named after S. M. Kirov in Baku.
In 1979, he graduated with honors from the university with a degree in Geological Survey, Prospecting and Exploration of Mineral Deposits in his native language and came to Northern Kazakhstan, where he began his career in the Asbestos exploration party, the expedition “Tsentrgeolnerud” of the Ministry of Industrial Construction Materials of the USSR in the city Zhitikara (formerly Dzhetygara), Kostanay region, worked as a geologist, senior and chief geologist, and in 1982 was appointed head of the exploration party.
He combined work in production with scientific activity. In 1981, he entered the graduate school of the Sverdlovsk Mining Institute (now the city of Yekaterinburg) and in 1985 he defended his Ph.D.
In 1988–89 was sent to the Yemen Arab Republic as the technical director of the “Contract for the exploration of the deposit of cement raw materials.”
From 1996 to the present, he has been the General Director of “Asbestovoye GRP” LLP.
In 1999 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Chrysotile-asbestos of Kazakhstan”.
In 2001 in Moscow he was elected an academician of the International Engineering Academy (IEA), and in 2003 in Almaty – a full member of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NEA RK).
All scientific and production activities of N.N. Jafarov are aimed at performing work on various issues of studying, forming and preserving mineral deposits, on the integrated and rational use of subsoil, etc.
Based on the modern theory of mobilism, he developed a geological and genetic model for the formation and conservation of chrysotile asbestos deposits, compiled a map of mineragenic zoning of Kazakhstan, and determined the mineral resource potential of chrysotile asbestos in Kazakhstan. The scientific model developed by him for the formation of asbestos deposits is included in the Atlas of the Genesis of mineral deposits of Kazakhstan and in 2004 was presented at the World Geological Congress in Italy.
Under his leadership, exploration work is carried out to study many deposits of gold, cobalt – nickel, rare earths, kaolins, building materials and other deposits of the South Urals in Kazakhstan and Russia, including the largest deposits of chrysotile-asbestos in the South Urals (Zhitikara and Kiembay) , a special exploration methodology was developed and an assessment was made of Zhitikara jade deposit – the only one of its kind jade deposit in Kazakhstan.
Nizami Najaf oglu is the author of 2 monographs, more than 100 published scientific papers, as well as 50 projects, reports and manuals, most of which were approved in different years by the State Reserves Commission of the USSR and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2000, his monograph “Chrysotile-asbestos of Kazakhstan” was published . For the first time, the book summarizes materials on all deposits of chrysotile-asbestos in Kazakhstan, highlights their geological and industrial types.
The monograph “Minerals of the Zhitikara ore region (Kostanay Trans-Urals)” , written jointly with the twin brother Fizuli, published in 2002, sums up the results of almost a century of geological study of the Zhitikara ore region.
